Education Programs

Generations of Faith

This is a new approach to faith formation that is taking hold in parishes across the United States. It is intergenerational and centered on the events of Church life, such a sacraments, feasts, prayer, works of justice. Each year a different focus is selected, and gatherings are held for in-depth learning about the selected topic. These gatherings include a  prayer service, age-appropriate groupings or activity centers and take home materials. The preparation that occurs at each gathering is intended to help parishioners talk about their faith at home and participate more meaningfully in the celebrations and life of the Church. For more information contact Sr. Susan, (440) 708-0000 X 202.

  Pre-Baptismal Preparation
Along with our neighboring parishes, Holy Angels offers a Pre-Baptismal class for new or expectant parents. Four times a year (January, April, August and October) we offer this class as a two-hour evening session. We need volunteers who can relate to parents of very young babies and are at ease speaking to groups about their own commitment to Christian family life.

Liturgy of the Word for Children
For children in grades kindergarten through 2nd. During the 5:00 pm and 10:00 am Masses, before the scripture readings begin, the children are invited to the Community Room of the church to hear the Scriptures of the day presented in an age appropriate manner. Children then rejoin their families in the Worship Space to continue the Eucharistic celebration at the presentation of gifts.

Parish School of Religion(PSR)
Preschool through 5th grade
Religious Education classes for Preschool through 5th grade are held on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings at Holy Angels.  When registering for PSR, families also register for Generations of Faith gatherings.  Generations of Faith is an intergenerational model of catechesis for the entire parish.  If you would like to share your faith by teaching these age groups, training is available. If you are interested in helping but teaching is not for you, there are other ways to be of assistance. As a teacher's aide, your presence and an extra set of hands can be of great help.

Family PSR (FPSR)

Family PSR/Generations of Faith is offered to families who desire to become more involved in their child's religious education. Parents assume responsibility for teaching the course material.  When registering for Family PSR, families also register for Generations of Faith.  Generations of Faith is an intergenerational model for catechesis for the entire parish.

First Reconciliation
First Reconciliation is celebrated by our children with their family or at a group First Reconciliation Service. Parents assume responsibility for the preparation of their children to receive the Sacrament. Instructional materials are provided at a mandatory parent-child workshop each fall.

First Eucharist
First Eucharist is celebrated by our children either at group First Communion or individually with their families at a scheduled weekend Mass. Parents assume responsibility for the preparation of their children to receive the sacrament. Instructional materials are provided at a mandatory parent-child workshop each winter. Part of the preparation for First Eucharist is a Jesus Day held in the spring.

Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is held each summer for one week for children ages 4 through 10. Children will enjoy a week of fun, games, refreshments, crafts, music, Bible stories and more. Lots of volunteers are needed to make this program a success.

LAUNCH & Confirmation
Grades 6, 7 and 8 meet twice each month for faith formation. When registering for LAUNCH, families also register for Generations of Faith gatherings.  Generations of Faith is an intergenerational model of catechesis for the entire parish.Topics relevant to the lives of young teens are presented from a Catholic Christian perspective using age-appropriate methods. Sessions are held on Sunday or Monday evenings at Holy Angels. Parents who are willing to share their faith act as small group leaders for the entire season. Other parents prepare snacks and provide transportation for events.

Junior High Summer Camp
Junior High Summer Camp welcomes all area students who are entering grades 6 through 9 for the upcoming school year. It is a day camp in the summer. There is also plently of time for crafts, games, canoeing, archery, swimming and hiking. There is an adult planning team that helps plan the week with the Youth Minister and the week is lead by high school students and 2 adults each day.

HAYGroup (Holy Angels Youth Group)
In addition to participating in special events and projects throughout the year, HAYGroup (grades 9 through 12) meets once or twice a month on Sunday evenings at Holy Angels to encourage living as a Catholic Christian teen in today's world. Adults who are willing to share their faith and insight, prepare snacks for the meetings or provide transporation to events are always needed. There is also a Lead Crew, comprised of the adult team and 8 to 12 teens, that meet monthly to plan and implement youth ministry events. Check out the youth ministry website at www.holyangelsyouth.com

Workcamp
Each June a team of teenagers and adult advisors leaves the comforts of home and spends a week living and working with people in need of help. They hang drywall, replace decks and porches, paint, install insulation, etc. Teens and adult advisors alike grow closer to the Lord as they internalize the truth of the gospels. The support of Holy Angels community is necessary to continue this ministry. The team needs prayer partners to pray for them during workcamp. Financial sponsors are also necessary in order to maintain the program.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
For those interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. The program is designed as an educational process to understand the beliefs and traditions of the Catholic faith. Later in the process, participants will be extended an invitation to be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. Catholics interested in sharing their faith in this ministry are invited to join the RCIA team.

Couple to Couple Ministry
This ministry is for married couples interested in helping prepare engaged couples for the Sacrament of Marriage. After completing the diocesan training program, married couples invite an engaged couple to their home for three or four gatherings to discuss issues and share insights into the lifelong commitment of the Sacrament of Matrimony.

Adult Education Opportunities
Holy Angels offers a variety of adult opportunities throughout the year. Some of the individual events and on-going programs are listed under Spiritual Development. The weekly bulletin and quarterly newsletter provide updated information.
