Worship

Worship Commission
This commission assesses and plans for the liturgical life of our parish community. Meeting quarterly, it helps coordinate the efforts of the different liturgical ministries, especially during the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter.

 Altar Server
Any boy or girl, in the fourth grade or older, is welcome to serve in this ministry at weekend liturgies. A training session is offered in the fall for those interested in serving the Lord in this special way.

Art & Environment
This group of dedicated people provides a visual expression of the liturgical message throughout the Church year. This work is especially noteworthy during Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter, although many other liturgical events are also enhanced by their efforts. Some individuals bring their ability to the group, while others provide their time, their muscle or something as simple as ironing skills.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
A unique religious formation program for 3 and 4 year olds. This program incorporates a hands-on method of education to introduce children to Gospel stories and the liturgy. It is held during the 10:00 am Mass in the St. Gabriel Room. Adults volunteers welcome. Student enrollment is limited.

Commentator
Our commentators begin the liturgy by welcoming the people and reading any timely announcements. During the liturgy, they also read the intercessions. Early arrival for liturgy is required.

Cross Bearer
Each liturgical minister serves the assembly by enabling them to enter more fully into the celebration of the Eucharist. The entrance procession signals the ritual beginnings of our celebration. By leading this procession, the Cross Bearer helps to create the image of the Church present in this assembly. We encourage our high school age parishioners and older to participate in this ministry because of the size of the processional cross.

Eucharistic Minister
We are blessed to have many members of Holy Angels who joyfully and reverently help distribute the Eucharist at weekend liturgies and to the sick and homebound. Time preferences for particular liturgies are taken into consideration. The diocese provides the training for this program twice each year. This requires early arrival for scheduled liturgies.

 Greeter
As part of our effort to keep Holy Angels a welcoming, friendly community, we have instituted a Ministry of Greeters. These are volunteer parishioners who welcome people as they come into the church during our weekend liturgies. Anyone who is friendly and willing to commit to arriving a few minutes before Mass is welcome to join this ministry. We encourage singles, couples, families with their children, young and old to take part in this ministry.

Intercessions Preparation
The Intercessions, also known as the Prayers of the Faithful, are read after the Creed at Mass each weekend. The people serving on the committee write these Intercessions. The committee meets every few months, at which time members select the weekends for which they would like to write. Plenty of printed samples are provided.

Lector
In the reading of the first and second readings at Mass, our lector proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ to the community. While a clear speaking voice and the ability to speak before a large group is helpful in this ministry, a love for the Word of God is the best qualification to help the congregation. This requires advance preparation by becoming familiar with the readings and early arrival for scheduled liturgies.

Liturgy of the Word for Children
Children in grades kindergarten through 2nd are welcome to participate in this program. During the 5:00 pm and 10:00 am Masses, before the scripture readings begin, the children are invited to the Community Room of the church to hear the Scriptures of the day presented in an age appropriate manner. Children then rejoin their families in the Worship Space to continue the Eucharistic celebration at the presentation of gifts.

Music Ministry
Our weekend liturgies have always been greatly enhanced by the talent and commitment of those who share their voices and musical gifts with us. Our music ministry includes the adult, children's and handbell choirs. They meet on Tuesday evenings to prepare to lead us in song each weekend. If you think you have any interest in this area, don't be shy - this is a warm and welcoming group.

Usher
Have you ever been invited to a gathering where the only person you know is the one who invited you? What a relief when someone reaches out to welcome you! Our ushers seat people at our liturgies, collect the offering, direct the preparation of gifts and distribute bulletins after Mass. Arrival fifteen minutes before liturgy is required.
